What is Federal Style?

Federal Style, is an architectural style that was popular in the United States from the late 1700s to the mid 1800s. The Federal style is characterized by its use of classical elements, such as columns, pediments, and dentil molding, as well as by its symmetrical façade, with an equal number of windows on each floor. The style is also known for its simplicity and elegance. This style is was most popular in the Northeastern cities, in cities like Philadelphia, Boston, and New York, that where the leading centers of trade and government during the new nation period.
